Troop 179 - Ventura, CA Login Username: * Password: * Request new password Menu HomeCalendar Files Links Photo Albums Contact Us Troop Roster Eagle Honor Roll Created using myTroop © 2005-2020 SOAR Welcome to Troop 179 Ventura California Camp Fiesta Island 2017 Thank you for visiting our website. New scout parents will receive their password information to log into this website once their application paperwork has been processed by the Council. Once you have full access to the web site, you will be able to see the full Troop Calendar, Youth and Adult Rosters, Forms, Photo Albums, Eagle Honor Roll and other info. Troop 179 was first chartered in 1993. We are a member of the Ventura County Council #057, 509 E. Daily Drive in Camarillo. Our sponsoring organization is St. Paul’s Episcopal Church, located at 3290 Loma Vista Road in Ventura, CA, 93003. Regular Troop Meetings are the first and third Tuesdays of every month in Kahler Hall at St. Paul’s , with Troop Leadership meetings the second Tuesday of the month and special meetings or Courts of Honor the fourth or fifth Tuesdays. Prospective Troop members are welcome to visit one of our regular meetings. Troop 179 has an average of 25 Scouts on the roster at any given time. They come from several local Cub Scout Packs and schools, and bring a wide range of ages and experience to the Troop. We are quite active, with a goal of one major outing per month. In addition to numerous day-hikes, service projects and similar one-day events locally, in the recent past we have had overnight campouts at Camp Wolverton, Saddleback Butte, Morro Bay, and on the Kern River while whitewater rafting. We have visited Edwards Air Force Base, the USS Midway, and gone rock climbing at Joshua Tree and annually compete at Camporee. For our annual Summer Camp, in recent years we have attended Camp Three-Falls, Camp Whitsett, Camp Emerald Bay and Camp Chawanakee. The Troop believes in the Patrol Method, and strives to be a boy-led program. Developing youth leadership is a priority. Currently, we have four patrols that provide plenty of leadership opportunities. The aims of Scouting…character development, citizenship, and mental and physical fitness, guide us through our program planning and service projects. Troop 179 has also consistently benefitted from our dedicated and active Scout Parents and Adult Scout Leaders. Unlike Cub Scouts, the Boy Scout way is to give the Scouts more responsibility and autonomy, but boys still need mentoring, advice and guidance. The Troop has many opportunities for parental involvement and we encourage everyone to participate. New Scouts who join Troop 179 will receive a Troop neckerchief, neckerchief slide and 2 shoulder epaulets for use with the Class A” Scout uniform. New Scouts also receive a red Troop 179” T-shirt, which functions as the Class B” uniform for hikes, dirty” service projects and other casual outings. Scouting is not just about Rank Advancement and Merit Badges, but those things are an important part of Scouting. Since its inception, Troop 179 has been honored to assist twenty-four boys promote to the rank of Eagle Scout, and many more earn numerous worthwhile merit badges and advancements along the Scouting trail. We are proud of the program we have developed and invite you to attend one of our Troop meetings.
